Play the Fun & Educational Eve Gene Game
It’s not news that most history books fail to include African American achievements and history—and the small amount taught focuses on the darkest parts. And while there is a battle to incorporate lessons on African American “agency, joy, love and global connection with blackness around the world,” as Garret Kin, the Director of the Carter Center for Black History Education, ideally put it, this fight is going to take time.
That’s where the Eve Gene Game comes in! This fun and educational App and card game challenges its players on trivia about the global, life-changing, and extraordinary accomplishments of Black people. Focusing on the positive events of African American history, the Eve Gene Game shines a light on the ignored or improperly recorded facts on the contributions of Black Incredibles across various periods, cultures, and industries, including:
- Sports Heros
- Entertainment
- Scientists and Inventors
- Civil Rights Leaders
- Public Figures
- Writers and Artists
- Business Icons
There are 600 question-and-answer cards, which means there are 600 opportunities to celebrate Black excellence! Eve Gene Game can be played with friends and family, in classrooms by yourself and in any setting where there is a need for knowledge with fun.
What is the Eve Gene?
Named after the story of Genesis, the Eve Gene is the oldest DNA lineage in human history. Geneticist Vanessa Hays at the University of Sydney in Australia traced the gene back to the earliest modern human, who evolved in southern Africa over 200,000 years ago.
Passed down maternally, the gene can only be found in Black women today. So you can think of this gene as the peak of the human genealogical tree where all the branches connect, which means that the beginning of human history is Black history.
